Fitness Freakery

Its a well researched fact that weight loss and wellness are not achieved through exercise fads promoted by fitness freaks and gadgets.  Killing yourself with an fitness regime is generally unsustainable and is often an excuse or cover up for other habits leading to unwellness. Typically eating unhealthily or drinking alcohol to excess. Alcohol is high on calories (some drinks many fold higher than other drinks-see Planner here) and gives you little or no protein (here) or fibre (here) boosts both of which are necessary for wellness. We dont suggest abstinence. Just balance again.

Below is an exercise and its contribution to weight loss and maintenance. The table is part of a published scientific research paper show here.  You will see that exercise is crucial for maintaining healthy weight once achieved – but losing weight as a consequence of severe fitness regimes has limited success-often if any.

Conclusion

Losing a few hundred calories staying fit and active is a great way to contribute to your wellness objective and maintaining it. Essential we would argue!  However killing yourself in the gym or pounding the streets is unlikely to get you where you want to be on its own. Again, its all part of the science behind balance. So avoid the  muscle touting fitness gurus selling fancy exercise programmes with overstated promises. Go to planner here and incorporate an achievable fitness programme into your daily plan.  It is going to make a difference to not just weight, but the other components of the unwellness syndrome (here) too.
